Digital game developer GamesThatWork has launched a software-only version of its Brush Up app, which teaches kids how to brush their teeth.
The app was originally designed to work with the company's sensor-enabled Bluetooth toothbrush, but now it can be used with a nonelectronic toothbrush.
"Nothing teaches better than real-time feedback from a connected toothbrush," stated Dov Jacobson, director of GamesThatWork, in a press release. "But millions of families can't afford the electronic toothbrush. Those kids deserve clean teeth too."
The new app includes a Magic Mirror feature, which uses a smartphone's front camera in "selfie mode" to provide real-time assessment of brushing performance. The Magic Mirror feature puts kids into the game, where they can brush along with Budd, the toothbrush tutor.
The app is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play store, and it can be played for free, but additional features, including the ability to win prizes, parental notifications, and an additional game, can be purchased for $0.99 a month or a one-time charge of $9.99.
