The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) on July 8 published a paper in JDR Clinical & Translational Research that highlights the need for digital oral health advocacy.

The paper asserts that digital tools must be used to improve healthy dental behavior and to lower risk factors common to oral diseases. It was prompted in part by the digital response to COVID-19 lockdowns that changed the way countries responded to dental emergencies, the two associations said.

"Digital oral health should be one of the pillars of oral healthcare post-COVID-19. Universal access to digital oral health should be promoted globally," paper co-author Benoit Varenne, PhD, of the World Health Organization said in a statement released by the IADR and the AADR.
