Public comments on the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) are open until midnight EDT on May 8, 2015. One section of the report (Part D, Chapter 6) addresses the effects of added sugars and low-calorie sweeteners on dental caries.
The guidelines are updated every five years and provide exercise and nutrition recommendations for U.S. residents ages 2 years and older. The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) creates the scientific report that influences the final guidelines.
The 2015 guidelines call for limiting added sugars to 10% of daily calorie intake and for redesigned nutrition labels. To read and submit comments, visit the report's page on health.gov.
