ADA asks for regulatory relief in letter to Trump

ADA President Gary Roberts and Executive Director Kathleen O'Loughlin have sent a letter to the incoming Donald Trump administration seeking regulatory reform to allow dental practices to "deliver oral healthcare services at an affordable price."

In the December 15 letter, the association asked the new administration to consider the following items for regulatory relief for dentists and dental practices:

  • Dentists who are not participating in Medicare should be exempt from the Medicare Ordering and Referring requirements.
  • Dentists not participating in Medicare should be exempt from the Medicare Part D enrollment requirements.
  • The Office for Civil Rights should enforce Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act as written rather than creating new regulations. The association recommends an exception for businesses with 25 or fewer employees if the regulation is not rescinded.
  • The requirement for providers participating in Medicare Advantage programs to enroll in Medicare should be repealed.
  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration should not adopt a proposed rule regarding confidentiality, or if it does, dental practices should be excluded.

Roberts and O'Loughlin noted that the ADA looks forward to working with the Trump administration on issues related to oral healthcare.
