Sleep apnea start-up gets $23 million

Breathe Technologies announced it has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its wearable ventilation system and also a $23 million infusion from investors.

Breathe said its lightweight, portable ventilation system can help people with sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other respiratory conditions.

The financing was led by DAG Ventures and included Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Delphi Ventures, Synergy Partners International, and Johnson & Johnson Development.

The company also named John Miclot, formerly of Respironics, chairman of the board.

Breathe will continue development of new treatments for sleep disorders, it said.
