The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry has launched the Department of Population Oral Health, its ninth academic department.
Formerly the Division of Prevention and Public Health Sciences, the department will lead efforts in dental public health, disease prevention, community-based education, and population-focused research. It will oversee community service learning in the DMD program and manage the joint DMD-MPH program with the UIC School of Public Health.
Dr. Scott Tomar, associate dean for prevention and public health sciences, has been appointed as the department’s inaugural head.
