The New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) has fired two employees for stealing credit card information from hundreds of patients and running up $100,000 of charges on fraudulent accounts.
Joel Scott and James Giscombe Jr., who worked with patients treated at the school, were arrested in May 2013 for allegedly lifting credit card information from more than 350 victims using a card skimmer, according to a New York Post story.
"Protecting the confidentiality of patient information is a priority for NYUCD, and we deeply regret that our patients' confidential financial information was compromised," NYU spokesman Philip Lentz said in an email to DrBicuspid.com. "The college has instituted new procedures to prevent this type of misuse of information from recurring. NYUCD is fully committed to providing superior healthcare while ensuring the privacy and security of patient information."
