Univ. of Utah School of Dentistry names dean

Rena D'Souza, DDS, PhD, has been named the first permanent dean of the new University of Utah School of Dentistry and will assume her role on August 1, 2013, when the school welcomes its first class of 20 students.

Dr. D'Souza is a professor in the department of biomedical sciences at Baylor College of Dentistry and served as its chairperson from 2006 to 2012. She developed and secured funding for a related series of institutional grants from the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research.

Dr. D'Souza received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Bombay in 1977, after which she completed her general practice residency. She was awarded her Doctor of Dental Surgery and Master of Science in 1985 and her doctorate in 1987, all from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
