EHR vendor buys Epocrates for $293M

Electronic health record (EHR) provider athenahealth is acquiring Epocrates, which provides point-of-care clinical information to doctors via mobile devices, for $293 million.

The all-cash sale included all outstanding shares of Epocrates' common stock, according to a company press release.

By combining athenahealth's cloud-based services with Epocrates' expertise in mobile computing, the companies intend to redefine the accessibility of information for care givers as they diagnose and treat patients, according to Epocrates.
