Ga. College of Dental Medicine gets LEED-certified

The Georgia Health Sciences University College of Dental Medicine's new building has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, the first building to have earned the recognition on its campus, according to an article on the school's website.

The designation was awarded in October after a one-year process. Aspects of the building, such as water use, a sustainable building site, materials and resources, energy use, and design innovation, are considered by a third party for verification of the voluntary program created by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The building earned Silver LEED certification, the second of four tiers. Features of the building include a reflective roof that prevents heat absorption, controlled water use, 20% recycled construction materials, and green power.
