Ore. dentist loses legal fight over online reviews

An Oregon judge has dismissed a $300,000 defamation lawsuit filed by a Portland dentist against a former patient over negative reviews posted about the dentist online.

On September 27, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Judith Matarazzo granted Spencer Bailey's motion to dismiss the complaint, which was filed in June by Mo Saleh, DMD, according to a story by KOIN.

Dr. Saleh filed the suit after Bailey wrote on Yelp.com, DoctorOogle.com, and Google that the care he received at Dr. Saleh's practice was "improper and insufficient." Dr. Saleh claimed that the posts damaged his reputation and caused profit loss and emotional distress, and that Bailey accused him of fraud.

Dr. Saleh blamed federal legislation for the judge's decision to dismiss the lawsuit, saying that "the basis of the current Communication and Decency Act, Section 230, is flawed, outdated, and needs to be revisited."
