A.T. Still University (ATSU) is moving closer to achieving accreditation for the new Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health that would enable it to open in fall 2013.
The school's trustees recently approved agreements to establish a clinic in St. Louis for third-year dental students, according to a story in the Kirksville Daily Express. The clinic needs to be in a high-population area to ensure it receives 40,000 visits, the benchmark for accreditation of the school.
The university is also close to naming a dean for the new dental school, which ATSU needed after making the move to establish the local school as its own institution and not a branch campus of the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health.
Groundbreaking is set for March. School trustees approved a $26 million bond issue last fall for the new dental school and decided that St. Louis was the best location to deliver the necessary number of visits.
