Roseman University of Health Sciences hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 27 to open Utah's first four-year school of dentistry, Utah Pulse reported.
The College of Dental Medicine's five-story, 125,000-sq-ft facility features classrooms equipped with multimedia technology, six imaging rooms, two wet labs, conference rooms, team breakout rooms, and lounges, according to the article.
For the first phase of the school, 80 dental operatories will serve as a patient clinic for residents in the Salt Lake City area. The school will open its doors to emergency dental care in January 2012 and general dental care the following year, Utah Pulse noted.
More labs, classrooms, and dental clinics will open in subsequent years during phase two, the article added. At full capacity, students will be able to treat 300 to 350 patients daily in 189 operatories under the supervision of faculty and licensed dentists.
The school received 1,220 applications, roughly half from Utah residents, for the inaugural class of 64 students.
