The debate over whether more U.S. dental schools are needed to address the nation's access-to-care issues moved to Florida last week, where a state oversight committee heard proposals from two universities that want to create dental schools and a third that wants to expand its existing facility.

All three maintain that their proposals could help ease the state's dental care crisis. But the primary reason for adding more dental schools, some say, is to meet the overwhelming demand from out-of-state applicants to attend school in Florida. Finally, resin-based composites give patients the aesthetic results they want, but some can be susceptible to unsightly stains from certain foods. A study in the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry looked at the interaction between different resin-based composites and stain-causing food products and found a universal microhybrid composite to be more stain-resistant than the others.
