Grants to boost EHR projects in SoCal

Public Health Foundation Enterprises (PHFE) received two grants to continue its health information exchange activities in Southern California (SoCal), the organization announced.

Cal eConnect, the state's health information exchange entity, distributed in its first round of funding designed to improve health information exchange activities in communities across California on March 7.

The Orange County Partnership Regional Health Information Organization, PHFE's Orange County, CA, health information exchange project, was awarded nearly $796,000 to continue and expand its activities. Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services was awarded $996,000 to build on ongoing efforts in Los Angeles.

In consort with efforts to promote meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs), recruit and train health information professionals, and expand telehealth initiatives, these projects are intended to improve patient care and access to timely health-related information.

This funding is part of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act portion of federal stimulus funding that California received.
