UNMC dental school goes under 90-minute lockdown

he University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Dentistry was under a 90-minute lockdown Thursday after a faculty member spotted an armed man on the school campus, according to a news story in the Journal Star.

The disturbance started when a dental college faculty member called 911 around 3:00 p.m. and reported a man entering the college with what appeared to be a silver handgun, which prompted the shutdown, the Star reported.

University police ended the search on the school's East Campus Thursday afternoon, allowing classes and activities to resume at 4:38 p.m.

Although the lockdown was lifted, police continued to look for the man, Assistant University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Chief Carl Oestmann said Thursday afternoon.

There was an increased police presence on campus Friday morning.
