The Loma Linda University School of Dentistry has hired a credit monitoring and repair firm to help potential identity theft victims following the theft of three computers in June.
Kroll will offer assistance to any of the 10,100 patients whose personal information was contained in three desktop computers stolen from the school the weekend of June 12, according to a story in the Press Enterprise.
Patient treatment records were not stored on the computers, but they did contain names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and other health and personal information, school officials told the paper. Two people were arrested in connection with the case last month.
The computers' memory had been erased by the thieves, who were unable to crack password firewalls, school officials said. The university has not yet received any reports of identity theft.
