A Scottish e-learning expert from the University of Highlands and Islands (UHI) has been made a visiting professor at King's College London to help the international development of a virtual dental school there.
Frank Rennie, professor of sustainable rural development at UHI, will help to spread dental healthcare education across the world through the U.K. government's ÂŁ2.3 million ($3.8 million U.S.) International Virtual Dental School (IVIDENT) project, which will be launched as UDENTE (Universal Dental E-learning) in May, according to a university press release.
The project, which is based at King's College, is designed to bridge the gap between skills development for dentists and the availability of expert teachers in smaller specialities by providing a holistic, on-line, flexible learning capability with universal IT integration.
"I am delighted to be involved in this exciting initiative, which aims to change the way that dental education is presented and delivered to dental practitioners and students," Professor Rennie said. "The innovations will provide top quality digital teaching resources, not just for our own students, but for collaborating institutions all around the world."
