Calif. dental board approves pediatric sedation course

The Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) Education's Pediatric Sedation Dentistry course has been approved by the Dental Board of California and is available to all California general and pediatric dentists. This course meets the training requirements for the pediatric oral conscious sedation permit, DOCS said in a press release.

DOCS believes the medications used in its pediatric sedation protocols are among the safest available. Some have amnesic properties that help eliminate negative associations with treatment, foster a more positive relationship with the dentist, and reduce dental anxiety for future visits.

The course covers all aspects of patient and parent management, both of which play critical roles in the successful outcome of any pediatric sedation appointment, according to DOCS.

Pediatric Sedation Dentistry will be offered in San Francisco November 5-7, 2009, and in San Diego February 18-20, 2010.
