Construction will proceed on a 216,000-sq-ft, $125 million dental school building at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill thanks to a "stimulus" package approved last week by Gov. Mike Easely.
Thanks to the infusion of capital, the Dental Sciences Building is back on track for completion in January 2012. The package earmarks $69 million of a $744 million bond sale to add instructional, research, and academic support space to the School of Dentistry.
UNC needs the space in part because it plans to expand the dental class size from 81 to 100 students, according to the university.
