Patterson acquires Dolphin software company

The Dental Supply unit of Patterson Dental has acquired Dolphin Imaging Systems and Dolphin Practice Management, according to the company.

Dolphin Imaging Systems, based in Chatsworth, CA, makes software for use with radiography and digital photography. The programs can manipulate images and graphically simulate treatment outcomes. Certain elements of Dolphin's imaging software can be integrated into its EagleSoft software for general dental practitioners, Patterson said.

Dolphin Practice Management software helps manage workflow, patient scheduling, and financial systems.

Dolphin has estimated sales of $13 million and is profitable and debt-free, according to Patterson.

Patterson Dental Supply distributes a complete range of dental equipment, and had sales of $537 million in its most recent quarter.

"The combination of our large field sales force and array of radiological systems with Dolphin's suite of products has the potential to become a profitable growth engine for our business over the next several years," said Scott P. Anderson, president of Patterson Dental Supply, in a press release.
