Delta Dental renews Tricare contract

Delta Dental of San Francisco has won a new five-year contract to administer the Tricare Retiree Dental Program (TRDP), which offers dental benefits to retired members of the U.S. uniformed services.

Delta Dental inked the contract renewal with Tricare Management Activity (TMA) of the U.S. Department of Defense, with the new contract taking effect October 1. The TRDP has current enrollment of 1 million retirees and their families.

The new TRDP program will feature additional benefits when it goes into effect, including coverage for certain implant services at 50 percent of allowable charges, an increase to the orthodontic lifetime maximum from $1,200 to $1,500, and 80 percent coverage for certain posterior composite restorations.

During the new contract period, the TMA also anticipates authorization to extend the TRDP to new overseas locations, matching as closely as possible the same benefits of the current "enhanced program," according to Delta Dental.
