Nobel Biocare reported a 16% increase in net profits for the second quarter of 2009, despite ongoing economic challenges worldwide.
For the period (end-June 30), the dental implant maker reported net profits of 28.2 million euros ($40 million), up from 24.3 million euros ($34.5 million) for the same quarter a year ago. The figure includes restructuring costs of 5.8 million euros ($8.2 million).
Sales for the period fell 8.7% to 153.5 million euros ($218 million) due to deferred spending by patients, dental labs, and dentists, according to the company.
"Our growth (in the first six months of 2009) is in line with the market despite deferred scanner revenues and an unfavorable country mix," the company said in a press release.
Nobel Biocare is currently launching a new scanner and software system, Nobel Procera, which CEO Domenic Scala said in a conference call should bolster sales as the year progresses.
