Western Dental Services has completed its conversion to digital dental x-rays in all of its 260-plus dental and orthodontic offices in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
The dental HMO cited superior ease of use, safety, and accuracy as the motivating factors behind the decision.
"Digital x-ray technology has made our offices safer, greener, and more efficient," stated Samuel Gruenbaum, president and CEO of Western Dental, in a press release. "Patients and staff are exposed to decreased radiation, and we've eliminated the time and chemicals required to process film."
Increased patient involvement has been another benefit, according to Louis Amendola, DDS, chief dental director at Western Dental.
"The immediate feedback has helped our patients to become more involved in their own dental health," he said. "We are able to enlarge and compare digital images so that patients can see where they are having problems."
