Patterson Companies reported lower sales in its dental segment for the second quarter of fiscal 2018.
For the quarter (end-October 28), sales in the company's dental segment were $553.6 million, down 8% compared with $601.6 million in the same quarter of 2017. The dental segment represents approximately 40% of total company sales.
Sales of consumable dental supplies decreased 4.0% and equipment sales declined 17.3% in the quarter. The company attributed the decrease in equipment sales to fewer sales of Cerec (Dentsply Sirona) and other digital technology products.
Patterson posted net income of $40.2 million, down compared with net income of $45.8 million in the same quarter a year ago.
