The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry has appointed Thomas F. Lang, PhD, as its new associate dean for research.
Lang is currently a professor in the UCSF School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. He will continue that role in addition to taking the part-time position of associate dean of research beginning on July 1.
"I am thrilled that Dr. Lang has accepted this appointment," stated John Featherstone, PhD, dean of the UCSF School of Dentistry, in a press release. "Tom is very enthusiastic and has already developed plans for the future. He looks forward very much to becoming part of the School of Dentistry and to actively playing a role in maintaining the school's preeminence."
Lang received a doctorate in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. His current research interests include the development of image analysis approaches to study variations of bone structure, implementation of new technical scanning and image analysis protocols for bone quality measurements, and PET/CT to study skeletal muscle protein synthesis in relation to muscle anabolic therapies for sarcopenia.
