The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued marketing clearance for ImageWork's latest cone-beam CT system, the NewTom 5G, the successor to NewTom 3G.
The NewTom 5G utilizes the latest flat-panel technology with a wider 16-bit range, according to the company. It also offers seven flexible fields-of-view (FOV) that comply with the diagnostic imaging requirements of multiple specialties, including endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, implantology, dental and maxillofacial surgery, temporomandibular joint analysis, and ear, nose, and throat applications.
Other features include 0.075-mm resolution, 18 x 16-cm FOV, and horizontal patient positioning.
"While other manufacturers have abandoned the horizontal positioning of the patient for dental cone-beam imaging, the 5G represents a prolific step toward providing low-dose alternatives to the traditional CT examination without loss of image quality," said Michael Ellison, director of 3D operations for ImageWorks.
