Dr. Tom Giacobbi gives you a look inside 3D printing in the dental practice

Dr. Tom Giacobbi is back again this week with another look at a technology that is evolving for dental practices: 3D printing.

In his latest installment of Just a Minute, Doc, Giacobbi takes a look at how 3D printing is done through the 3D Systems NextDent 300 MultiJet printer.

Video transcript

"Hey, Doc, have you got a minute to learn about some of the latest technology from 3D Systems? It's the NextDent 300 MultiJet printer.

"This printer has two print heads with two channels each. What does that mean to us? That means you can load multiple materials in this printer and have them blended together in a single print job.

This happens by loading the printer with the base material and two shades of tooth color: yellow and white. The printer does all the work from there; it can custom blend those two shades to get any tooth color you desire. And the final monolithic denture is both strong and has an excellent fit. The postprocessing is equally easy because there are no annoying supports to remove.

"The entire print piece is encased in wax, which is easily removed, and minimal postprocessing is required. From there, a little polish, and it's ready to go.

"I encourage you to learn more at 3Dsystems.com/dental."
