U.S. President Donald Trump has named Peter O'Rourke as acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
O'Rourke previously served as VA chief of staff and as executive director of the VA's Office of Accountability and Whistleblower Protection. He succeeds Robert Wilkie, who has been nominated by President Trump to become the permanent VA secretary.
While he awaits U.S. Senate hearings on his nomination, Wilkie returns to the U.S. Department of Defense as under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, according to the VA.
