A 24-year-old Cincinnati man died August 31 from an abscessed tooth after he put off going to the dentist despite being in pain, according to a news story by WLWT.
Kyle Willis, an unemployed single father who was studying to be a paralegal, did not have health insurance, according to his family. When one of his third molars began hurting, he did not go to the doctor. But when he began getting headaches and his face became swollen, he went to the emergency room at University Hospital.
He was given prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medicine, but only purchased the pain medicine, according to his family. The infection then spread into his brain.
Family members have created a memorial fund for Willis' funeral expenses and are hoping to create another fund for his 6-year-old daughter's college education, WLWT reported.
