Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation has distributed $88,082 in oral health minigrants to 16 different agencies in the state, the Des Moines Register reported.
The grants are intended to fund "one-shot" oral health workshops, conferences, or projects lasting less than one year, such as a survey, data collection, or research study, the article stated.
The following organizations received grants:
- The Children & Families of Iowa organization received a $5,000 grant for oral health education and preventive care for teens receiving substance abuse or mental health treatment.
- Drake University Head Start will use its $1,000 grant for welcome visit dental kits.
- The Iowa CareGivers Association will use its $8,000 grant for an oral health session at its annual Iowa CareGivers conference.
- Primary Health Care in Urbandale will use its $5,000 grant to attend the National Primary Oral Health Conference.
- Special Olympics Iowa will use its $10,000 grant for oral health screenings and education during the Special Olympics.
- Visiting Nurse Services will use its $5,600 grant for a continuing education course covering public health needs.
