Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity has awarded Stanley Bergman, chairman and CEO of Henry Schein, with its highest honor: the Alpha Omega Lifetime Achievement Medal.
The award was presented at a dinner gala held in San Diego on December 30, the organization announced. Bergman is the first person in 30 years to receive this award who is neither a healthcare professional nor holds a doctorate.
For more than 15 years, Henry Schein Cares, the company's global corporate social responsibility program, has partnered with the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity on different programs aimed at enhancing access to oral healthcare for underserved communities around the world.
Through this partnership, Henry Schein Cares has supported the renovation of the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dentistry Clinic; helped build the Dr. D. Walter Cohen Middle East Center for Dental Education; supported the Alpha Omega Centennial Challenge Fund; assisted in the expansion of the Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine; and worked closely with Hebrew University and Al-Quds University.
In addition, for the past 13 years Henry Schein Cares has provided dental supplies and financial and marketing support to Dental Volunteers for Israel, an organization that enhances access to oral healthcare for all children throughout Jerusalem, regardless of race or religion.
Alpha Omega's Lifetime Achievement Medal was first given in 1935, and past recipients include Albert Einstein and Jonas Salk.
