At a time when many states are cutting back on Medicaid dental benefits for adults, Delaware may buck the trend.
A bill introduced in the state Senate would expand both urgent and preventive dental benefits to everyone eligible for Medicaid in the state. Currently, only children and adolescents can get dental care through the program.
Patients would pay $10 for each treatment, and they could get a maximum of $1,000 in care per year, with an additional $1,500 available by special approval for emergencies.
The bill is currently in the Senate Finance Committee. The state's economy is suffering from the recession less than many other states, and the state has balanced its budget, according to a report on Delaware Online.
