A 13-member dental coalition is asking that 10% of the $1.2 billion authorized for U.S. healthcare reform to be allocated to dentistry, according to an ADA News story.
In a letter sent May 25 to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the group urged legislators to allocate at least $93 million to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Oral Health for fiscal 2011 and $30 million to the Health Resources and Services Administration for fiscal 2011, the ADA News reported.
The 13 groups reportedly sent similar letters to bipartisan leaders of the House Committee on Appropriations. In addition to the ADA, the letters were signed by the following organizations:
- Academy of General Dentistry
- American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
- American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
- American Academy of Periodontology
- American Association for Dental Research
- American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
- American Association of Orthodontists
- American Association of Public Health Dentistry
- American College of Prosthodontists
- Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors
- Hispanic Dental Association
- National Dental Association
