Young Innovations today announced its sales were down but profits were up for the third quarter of 2009 versus the same quarter last year.
The company took in $24.8 million, a decrease of 0.5%over the $24.9 million reported for the third quarter of 2008. Net income for the third quarter increased 10.4% to $3.5 million from $3.1 million in 2008.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2009, sales were $73.2 million, decreasing 2.7% from the $75.2 million reported in the prior year period. Increased demand for consumable products offset continued weakness in the company's diagnostic product line, it said.
The consumable products, which include preventive, infection control, endodontic, micro-applicator and home care product lines, posted healthy gains for the quarter.
The company's product offering includes disposable and metal prophy angles, prophy cups and brushes, dental micro-applicators, panoramic X-ray machines, moisture control products, infection control products, dental handpieces and related components, endodontic systems, orthodontic toothbrushes, flavored examination gloves, children's toothbrushes, and children's toothpastes.
