A review in California of state-owned items has turned up several expensive pieces of medical equipment in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The equipment, originally reported as lost, stolen, or destroyed, included an x-ray machine valued at $415,000 and four $26,000 dental chairs, according to an article in the Sacramento Bee.
Gov. Jerry Brown's executive secretaries, in the course of budget-tightening efforts, ordered an examination of state agencies' property-accounting procedures, the article stated. The goal is to improve documentation and internal controls of state property among the state's 190,000 employees.
