Mo. dentist to repay $550K for Medicaid fraud

A Missouri dentist who created false dental records and substituted x-rays from different patients' files has been ordered to repay $550,000 for stealing from the state's Medicaid program, according to Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster.

Samuel A. Miller, D.D.S., submitted fraudulent billings for procedures such as x-rays, root canals, and resin-based composite restorations he did not perform, the AG's office noted in a press release.

Dr. Miller, who primarily treated children, tried to conceal his actions by creating false dental records, physically cutting off portions of dental records and taking x-rays from one patient's file and putting them in another. He was charged with 13 felony counts of Medicaid fraud.

During a court hearing on March 22, Dr. Miller was sentenced to five years probation subject to his meeting the terms of probation, including paying the full amount he was ordered to repay.

Dr. Miller came under investigation after a citizen reported her suspicions that he was committing fraud, the AG's office noted.
