Quantum unveils Canary Lab system

Quantum Dental Technologies (QDT) has launched the Canary Lab system, a bench-top instrument designed to give researchers a nondestructive method for detecting defects and caries in the enamel of extracted teeth.

The instrument uses a combination of photothermal radiometry and luminescence to scan smooth tooth surfaces, providing a graphical image along with quantification, according to the company. It allows imaging and quantification of early demineralization and monitors changes in crystal structure on smooth surfaces over time in a noninvasive fashion.

The company has reduced the footprint and weight of the instrument, and enhanced its functionality by adding a three-axis micrometer stage that enables researchers and clinicians to conduct longitudinal studies by returning to the exact location on the tooth after a selected treatment regimen, according to Quantum.
