World's tallest man gets free dental makeover

A Southern California dentist has volunteered to provide the world's tallest man with a free dental makeover.

Sultan Kösen is the world's tallest living man, according to Guinness World Records. In 2009, he was measured to be 8 feet 1 inch tall, and he is still growing.

The 27-year-old lives in Turkey and was featured in a TLC documentary, "World's Tallest Man: Still Growing." After watching the program, San Clemente dentist Eric Johnson, D.D.S., contacted Kösen and offered him a free dental makeover to fill his cavities and fix his other teeth, according to a story on nbclosangeles.com.

Kösen has acromegaly, a rare hormonal condition that causes the pituitary gland to produce too much growth hormone, due to a benign tumor on his gland. Last week, he had surgery at the University of Virginia to try to prevent future growth, although two previous surgeries didn't help, according to the story.

Following a news conference on August 25, Kösen took photos with residents, then went back to Dr. Johnson's office to complete the dental work.
