Dental implant technology developer 35Newtons has introduced FirstPlug, a medical-grade system designed to enhance the process of filling access channels in screw-retained restorations.
FirstPlug consists of a medical-grade polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) barrier material and an instrument set for packing or filling retention screw channels during restorative procedures, according to the company. 35Newtons said the large-diameter, cylindrically shaped cord seats in the screw channel without rolling or twisting.
The PTFE material compresses to pack and seal the screw access chamber. It's also stiff enough to support the overlying restorative materials, 35Newtons said. In addition, the accompanying instrument set includes a wide-diameter barrier plugger for packing of the PTFE cord, as well as a barrier excavator for easy removal when uncovering the screw, according to the firm.
