A dentist in India pulled a tooth that measured 1.53 inches, which is expected to be declared as the longest one in the world, from the mouth of a 20-year-old man who was experiencing pain and swelling, according to news reports.
The tooth is about twice the size of an average tooth, and about 2 mm larger than the one a German dentist pulled from a Croatian man in 2018. Max Lukas, DDS, pulled a 37.2-mm or 1.46-inch long tooth from the man, breaking the world record for the longest tooth. These findings were published in October 2019 in the Swiss Dental Journal.
In the more recent case, engineering student Pawan Bhavsar visited a dentist in Khargone after experiencing a constant aching jaw, gum swelling, and oral blisters.
Saurabh Srivastava, DDS, inspected his mouth and decided the man needed two teeth extracted. The dentist suspected nothing unusual until he pulled Bhavsar's extra-long tooth on February 29.
Bhavsar has completely recovered and stopped experiencing pain and swelling after the extractions, according to reports.
Though it is believed that the tooth Dr. Srivastava pulled sets a new Guinness Book of World Records for the world's longest tooth, it may take about a year for him to be awarded.
