The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has awarded a New York University (NYU) researcher two grants totaling nearly $3.7 million to develop restorative dentistry materials that are strong and aesthetically pleasing.
The institute awarded the two five-year grants to Yu Zhang, PhD, an associate professor of biomaterials at the NYU College of Dentistry.
One of the grants funds research on the creation of zirconia-based ceramics that are strong, translucent, and abrasion-resistant using novel processing methodologies. The other focuses on improving the fracture resistance of porcelain-veneered dental prostheses, including crowns and bridges.
