The Canary System by Quantum Dental Technologies (QDT) can monitor the progress of caries after being treated with resin infiltration, according to a study presented at the recent European Organisation for Caries Research Congress in Brussels.
The research showed that the system could detect and monitor caries treated with DMG's Icon clear resin and that resin infiltration may significantly delay the progress of natural caries development on smoother surfaces and between teeth.
"Current detection methods for caries after infiltration are extremely challenging because of the thickness and transparency of resin," stated Stephen Abrams, president of QDT, in a press release. "Evidence from this study suggests that lesions treated with resin can now be effectively monitored with the Canary System. This gives dentists another option for treating early tooth decay."
