Amann Girrbach America has launched Ceramill Sintron, a soft chrome cobalt (CrCo) that allows dental labs to dry mill nonprecious metal restorations in-house on desktop milling machines.
Previous CrCo materials had been considered too hard for desktop milling applications. Ceramill Sintron eliminates the need for conventional nonprecious metal casting processes for crowns and bridges, according to Amann Girrbach.
Ceramill Sintron, developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden, has a "wax-like" texture and can be milled with either the Ceramill Motion or Ceramill Motion 2 milling machines. Sintron's texture also helps minimize wear and tear on tools, the company noted in a press release.
In addition, because it is dry-milled, cooling is unnecessary. The CrCo blanks can then be sintered using the Ceramill Argotherm sinter furnace, specifically developed for this indication.
