The Board of Directors of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) donated to the American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPAC) for the fifth year in a row during the ADA's Annual Session last month in San Francisco.
All 22 members made a donation of $200 or more, making them Capital Club members of ADPAC, according to the association.
ADPAC uses its financial contributions to help elect congressional candidates, regardless of party affiliation, who understand the importance of dentistry and oral health, according to the AAE. The group also provides educational opportunities for dentists interested in running for public office to help increase the dental voice in Congress. Currently, only two members of Congress are dentists.
Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal noted that, in 2008, "dentists (through ADPAC) boasted the largest single health care PAC," and that during the 2010 elections ADPAC gave $13 million to state and local candidates.
