The fluoride debate is heating up again this week in Wichita, KS, the fourth largest city in the U.S. without fluoridated water.
Two organizations -- the Kansas Health Foundation and Wichitans for Healthy Teeth -- are launching education campaigns in support of fluoridating the city's water.
On May 30, the Kansas Health Foundation unveiled a website, www.FluorideForUs.com, focused on the benefits of fluoridating public water, according to a story in the Wichita Eagle. The foundation's campaign will also include TV and radio ads, billboards, and social media outreach.
And on June 1, Wichitans for Healthy Teeth, a coalition of doctors and dentists, will launch its campaign, which also includes a website (wichitansforhealthyteeth.org) designed to help educate the public about water fluoridation. The group plans to take the issue to the Wichita City Council in August and is pursuing grant money to offset the infrastructure costs of fluoridating Wichita's water, according to the Wichita Eagle.
Past efforts to get the city of Wichita to fluoridate its water supply have failed, the story noted.
