Komet now offers round abrasive caps (9958R) that have been developed to grind hard and soft acrylics, silicone, and dry plaster.
The caps, which are constructed of glued paper and coated in abrasive grit, compression-fit on a reusable mandrel (9957R) that features a stainless-steel shank and a rubber head.
Unlike an arbor band, which is secured on a lathe, the cap-fitted mandrel is placed into a handpiece, thus offering exceptional versatility and control to access difficult-to-reach areas that require grinding and smoothing. Instead of moving the denture or model to conform to the spinning wheel of a lathe, the abrasive cap and mandrel assembly can be easily moved to cut and grind the exact area desired and is especially useful in denture cases that exhibit a high-arch or "vaulted" palate.
The caps are offered in three sizes: 070-small, 100-medium, and 130-large. The mandrels (9957R) cost $15 each; the corresponding caps cost $1.35 each.
