DenMat acquires Discus Dental restoratives products

DenMat Holdings has acquired Discus Dental's restoratives and impressions portfolios from Royal Philips Electronics.

These products include Splash and Precision impression materials; Vanilla Bite, Chocolate Bite, MegaBite, and Clear Bite registration materials; Moxie bonding agents; Gripper and Perfectray bite trays; Perfectemp crown and bridge material; and Flashlite (Magna and 1401) curing lights.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. DenMat said the acquisition strengthens its product portfolio -- which includes Lumineers, Snap-On Smile, and the Sapphire light platform -- and is part of a larger strategy to expand its presence in the dental market.

"Over the past three decades, DenMat built some of the most successful and recognized brands in dentistry," said CEO Steve Semmelmayer in a press release. "Leveraging this brand equity with expanded product offerings that give dental professionals a wider range of effective treatment solutions is our goal. The acquisition of the Discus Dental restoratives and impressions brands is an important step forward in developing a vibrant, new DenMat."

DenMat was acquired in November 2011 by affiliates of Centre Partners Management and Mill Street Partners. In addition to Semmelmayer, its management team includes Chief Operating Officer Robert Cartagena and Chief Administrative Officer Todd Tiberi. All three were formerly part of the executive team of Discus Dental, prior to its sale to Philips in December 2010.

In the following weeks, DenMat and Discus Dental will work together to transition all operations of the restoratives and impressions business into DenMat's facilities in Santa Maria, CA, according to the company.
