An independent, noncommissioned study by Reality Research Lab that compared the efficacy and bond strength of iBond Total Etch (Heraeus Kulzer) to OptiBond Solo Plus (Kerr) found that iBond outperforms OptiBond in sheer bond strength to both dentin and enamel, according to Heraeus.
Ten specimens of human enamel and 10 of human dentin were utilized to test the sheer bond strength of iBond Total Etch and OptiBond Solo Plus. iBond Total Etch was used on wet specimens (after etching), and OptiBond Solo Plus was applied on moist specimens (after etching). Venus Diamond A2 was the standard restorative material, Optilux 501 (> 800 mW/cm²) was the curing light, and bond strengths were determined immediately after light curing.
iBond Total Etch had higher bond strengths to both dentin and enamel than OptiBond Solo Plus in the most difficult Bonding protocol, namely wet, Reality Research found.
