3M rebrands Imtec mini dental implants

3M ESPE has launched a new brand for its recently acquired line of small diameter implants: 3M ESPE MDI mini dental implants. Formerly branded as the Imtec Sendax MDI system, the products will be fully integrated into the 3M ESPE organization over the remainder of the year.

The MDI procedure is a minimally invasive treatment that allows clinicians to immediately stabilize a patient's loose denture, according to 3M ESPE. The 90-minute flapless placement procedure can be learned in a one-day certification course, the company said.

The MDI system consists of a 1.8-, 2.1-, or 2.4-mm titanium alloy implant and a retaining fixture that is incorporated into the base of a patient's denture. To hold dentures securely in place, the O-ring in the retaining fixture snaps over the ball-shaped head of the implant. When seated, the denture gently rests on the patient's gum tissue.
